Even with advanced external security measures, firearms and shooters are invading schools more and more frequently. Teachers are not given adequate or realistic tools. Current classroom protocols are little more than a joke: have students pile desks and furniture, secured with belts against the classroom door. These shameful stopgaps are primitive and neither foil an attacker nor allow for practical egress or evacuation of students. As a society, we’ve shown more care securing our homes, vehicles, and possessions. Our kids deserve better. Our kids deserve the best.

Violence is as elemental a force of destruction as fire. And like fire, there is no way to eradicate violence — but there are sensible measures to control and contain it. The Door Lockdown Device (or DLD) is as simple and effective in minimizing the damage of violent invaders as a fire extinguisher is for preventing a spark from becoming a blaze.

Created with the mindset that teachers are really the first-responders in these crises supporting police and fire, the device is easy to use and backed by our patented  pending design; based on the physics of the transferring and dispersing energy. The DLD is a sophisticated  force transferring mechanism that can withstand thousands of pounds of force. This deceptively simple steel bar delivers best-in-class, military grade security that has application beyond schools and universities — businesses, embassies, and military bases.

But our primary focus is on protecting those most vulnerable: children, teachers, and educators. We recognize that teachers are on the front line when protecting students during a lockdown. Calling a pile of stuff against a door a solution is an insult and a dereliction of responsibility. The DLD is engineered to empower students and educators to quickly and effectively barricade their classroom doors without ever having to leave the classroom or even open the classroom door. And if an adult is absent or incapacitated, the compact DLD can be secured by a child — no special knowledge required.

We invest billions of (tax and private) dollars in providing educational technology (computers, iPads, smart boards) but still have illogical expectations for basic security. The world has changed, yet in this area schools have not evolved with the times.

The DLD was invented by Ayman Alkayali with the help of teachers, parents and entrepreneurs. Our company culture is built on safety, precision, and service. Our manufacturing and engineering hold to the toughest standards. Our mission is protection and social responsibility.

Our hope is that no one ever has to use our product. But, if needed, the DLD saves lives and is now an essential component that must be present in all classrooms, just in case. Imagine not having a fire extinguisher in your child’s classroom. Without a DLD next to that fire extinguisher you’re taking the same unnecessary risk.
